Barnacle Laneway House
From the outside, the Barnacle Laneway House is nondescript. A simple white volume, capped with a steep roof.
Step inside and the house opens upward into a compact atrium organized around a central mezzanine. A skylight at the peak pulls daylight deep into the space, turning a tight footprint unexpectedly expansive. The mezzanine holds the bedroom, hovering above a central service block below that contains the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry.
On either side of this core, the home splits into two lived zones: living and entry on one side, kitchen and dining on the other. Both are washed with light from linear skylights above, creating a subtle but constant shift in atmosphere throughout the day. Sunlight arcs across surfaces, quietly marking time and seasons.
Like a barnacle, the house is modest on the outside and richly formed within.
